What has a font got to do with environment friendliness you ask ? Well the amount of Ink that you would use to write on a piece of paper or print on a piece of paper is completely dependent on the font. To demonstrate this capability Designers Matt Robinson and Tom Wrigglesworth looked at ink usage of some commonly-used typefaces, by hand-drawing them with ballpoint pens.

Scribbling the font with the pen they actually got the below simple bar chart with ink usage measured by, ink.

[ad#Adsense Wide] Looking at this we know that Garamond Font is the most effective using the least ink and providing the same readability. Although the ideal world would be e-Ink everywhere especially with the dawn of iPad’s and upcoming wonders like the Microsoft Courier as well as the Indian Notion Ink Adam, it is still safe to say that papers are not going anywhere else, and for the time being, this font seems to be a good option to make it as a good Environmentally friendly font.
