One of the earliest games we have played on the computer has to be Prince of Persia, along ith PAC Man and other arcade games. Prince of Persia kept me engaged for hours and hours and seriously speaking it was something that I looked forward to on my first computer. Jordan Mechner, on the face of it a humble computer programmer who, in 1989, created a game called Prince of Persia for one of Apple’s earliest machines and, in doing so, made himself very rich and well known among players who instantly lauded it as a classic was the person who gave gaming wings in the early days.

In 1999 Prince of Persia launched the next dimension for the franchise, Prince of Persia went 3D and with it came a new series of games that just transformed your average gaming experience into something of an immersive adventure. The game was just breathtaking and caused a couple of more sequels to the Sands of time, namely two thrones and warrior within. Eitherway I was more than just excited to know that the game was getting converted to a Movie. This has not gone well in the past, another favorite Max payne was made really badly.

However when I first saw the trailer of the movie i knew that there is something here in the movie. I am not a person who usually does movie reviews, but for a movie adaptation of a long time favorite game franchise not only pulled e to watch it in the theater but also write a review for it here. Knowing further that it would be made by the creater of the game itself, made it more exciting. I just saw the movie and let me tell you I was impressed. In the game, the main character was known simply as the Prince. Understanding that it would be difficult to create a film in which the protagonist is never referred to by name, Mechner named him Dastan.

Ubisoft the creators of the 2008 version of the game recently acquired the company behind the amazing effects in 300, All over the world fans were happy about the thinking that Ubisoft might make the movie. But it was not, it was only between Disney and Mechner. Either way, I need to say that the movie did not disappoint like the other video game based movies at least. Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince clambers up buildings, takes massive flying leaps over rooftops and, yes, even does some wall jumps in the clip. The high-flying action sequences give the movie a very videogame-y flavor.
The scenes seemed right out of the game, so did a lot of the action sequences. The trailer above will give you a good idea about the movie in general. I was completely won over by the fight scenes especially when he starts to use the powers of the dagger and sort of medieval shoot out with daggers shown in the movie. All in all reiterating the fact that this movie is definitely worth a watch in the theaters.
Now since this movie is done and tron is one the way, looks like the old games may get a lease of life, wonder who is going to play PacMan or Minesweeper. The above clip should remind you guys of the old Prince of Persia game
Hi there. Thanks for an interesting read. I just wanted to bring some points to your attention.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie is based on the 2003 Ubisoft videogame of the same name, but it also takes some concepts from the sequels, Warrior Within (2004) and The Two Thrones (2005).
While Jordan Mechner was involved in writing the story of the movie, he does not get the complete credit…there are other writers also involved with the film.
Those videogames are among my favourite games of all time. I am looking forward to seeing how they have made the movie. I wrote a post about games-to-movies that might interest you: http://gurdit.com/blog/2010/05/21/why-films-will-never-be-as-good-as-books-or-videogames/
Thanks Gurdit, will update lwith the details . Just saw the movie this week, if you likes the game you should go see it in the Theateres most definately
I definitely will be watching this one on the big screen!
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is an obvious game adaptation. It is directed by Mike Newell, the respected director of Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Mona Lisa Smile, Donnie Brasco, Love in the Time of Cholera, and he is not afraid of using fine quality CGI effects and creating strong action scenes. This entertaining video game adaptation with its interesting story is written by Boaz Yakin, a successful and indie writer who stunned the audience with his Fresh and The Punisher and the co-writer is Doug Miro we know from The Uninvited and The Great Raid.
THanks for that my friend … a lot more information added I should say !
Prince of Persia is definitely one of the best movies this year..*.
