India is waking up to the world, to the possibilities that technology and education would provide. Education especially Engineering and technical education has been completely revamped and there are excess of these institutes, but maybe not quality ones. Anyway, the focus has to be not only provide education, but also awareness. The Vishweshwaraiah Technological Museum in Bangalore was built as an effort to show the same, as a tribute to one of the greatest Engineering Minds in India Sir. M. Vishweshwaraiah, whose vision it was to make technology accessible and understandable to the common man.

The museum not only provided a great opportunity to see the theoretical applications mentioned in the engineering books, Practically. And the understanding one would gain from such a museum is tremendous.  This was where for the first time I got to see physically concepts like Home Automation, weight of a person on different planets and how gravity affects it. Things that are sometimes a little hard to understand for the common man. However, it is sad that teh museum has faced a lot of negligence and very little maintenance making it a 50% working museum. Gujrat is now getting another museum.

However one state’s loss is another ones gain. States like Gujrat have been active on the technology scene for a while now, from trying to get the Nano on their shores to making way for a lot of software companies to help enable the economy, these states have seized the opportunity from states like Karnataka where the negligence from the government is costing the state. Gujrat recently opened its doors to the first Electricity Museum of India. The museum that displays evolution of power from the vedic days to the nuclear power generation age through interactive models is really something that the engineering students in the state will eventually benefit from. So  will the common man. The museum ‘CLP Electrodrome’, which, exhibits a wide range of computer-based interactive models of electricity generation, transmission and distribution, was thrown open for public by Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the science city in Ahmedabad. This is one of its kind museum in the country that displays evolution of power right from the vedic days to today’s nuclear power generation age, explaining science of electricity through various interactive models, and what is more its website is one of the finest government websites in the country.

The museum has all that one needs to know about electricity. The discoveries and inventions that have evolved around electricity, the time line of a bulb, working models of Tesla Coil and Wimsherst Machine. A whole section has been dedicated to the renewable sources of energy like solar, wind, biomass waste and technology that uses less electricity like LEDs. There are interactive screens that depict animated films on related topics. There is also a section where the children can take 10 question quizzes on electricity. ‘CLP Electrodrome’ Highlights CLP Electrodrome is a journey that takes the visitor through various exciting experiences to explore the nuances of electricity.

The 14,000 sq ft area is divided into 14 zones that highlight different aspects of electricity through numerous exhibits, information panels, movies, and interactive sections. The zone showcases interesting information on energy like the Connection of Electricity to Nature and Mythology, the Science of Electricity, Energy Efficiency and the need for Eco-Friendly Homes. Clean energy is an aspect reflected through green technologies and environment-friendly practices displayed in various zones. This is in line with CLP’s Climate Vision 2050, an initiative to help move the company into a low-carbon future and achieve a target of reducing carbon intensity of its power generation portfolio by 75% by 2050. The CLP Zone highlights the world-class technologies and best practices adopted at GPEC Plant in Bharuch, in addition to the numerous community programs the company has adopted in the region.

In addition, miniature and actual working models, large format replicas, world-class projection screens, sensor activated audio-visual experiences and special 3D effects through state-of-the-art LCD screens, makes this interactive museum the perfect blend of entertainment, education and technology. CLP Electrodrome provides the visitor with a unique insight into the energy sector, its significance in our daily lives and the economy at large
