Previously, I did bring up the issue of weather we are taking Facebook and Twitter too far, especially in relation to Facebook Places, where I mentioned that its not the best way to actually use the Social Network and included a video showing how to disable it. For all those of you who thought that I was just kidding and you don’t need to disable this feature, this one should come as a surprise.

Three guys have just been arrested in the United States for robbery, these guys used the Status Updates of users on Facebook to target them to steal from. This isn’t the first warning about what should and shouldn’t be posted on Facebook, but I find it important to remind Facebook users from time to time that leaving information about what you’re doing as “public status updates” can be dangerous on the social network.

Police in the town of Nashua, N.H. are reporting that 50 homes were targeted in August by a group of criminals who would check the social networking site to find out when people would be away from home, they would then target those homes at specific times. During their raid on the burglars homes police found a collection of stolen items valued between $100,000 to $200,000, items which included everything from remote-controlled cars all the way to live ammunition and various pieces of jewelry and electronics.
Location aware applications are all the rage suddenly, Facebook Places is one of the apps that has joined a bunch of services that are well, trying to get your location to share with your ‘friends. Four Square is another. Check out the introductory videos for Facebook Places and Four Square, both seem very interesting, but are they really ?
I guess its for you to decide if these applications are any good, but I would really suggest against it. If that does not really ring any alarm bells, I really suggest to check http://www.pleaserobme.com which was created as a jest to make aware the serious issues by using services such as these.
